ABOUT

 

Northeast Denver Unified focused on 5 neighborhoods in Northeast Denver, Colorado: Cole, Clayton, Five Points, Skyland, and Whittier. They are more diverse, poorer and experience higher rates of health disparities than the city as a whole. The communities face high rates of exposure to early childhood adversity such as domestic violence, out-of-home placement, and single-parent families. Northeast Denver Unified aimed to ensure that children across these communities are valued, healthy, and thriving through community engagement and education. Northeast Denver Unified:  1)United partners in their commitment to anchoring Northeast Denver Unified within family and community leadership 2)Connected with other community efforts in order to build greater sustainability and impact 3)Emphasized community-based efforts that will leverage existing resources.

Impact

The project accomplished impressive community mobilization for healthy children and families by engaging resident leaders as well as health care partners; implementing Outreach by Street Teams; hosting a zip code summit; educating through male engagement and fatherhood activities; and maximizing the health care system for the community residents.
